Great reads recommended by Minnie!
I often recommend books to clients. As their thoughts and emotions begin to shift as a result of reading, we have more material to work with in our coaching sessions. Books are thus a great partner in the coaching process!
The books listed below have all touched me profoundly in some way, and it is my pleasure to share them with you here.
Saying What’s Real: 7 Keys to Authentic Communication and Relationship Success (Susan Campbell)
This book is a refreshingly simple guide to speaking your personal truth and improving your relationships. Susan Campbell provides 7 easy-to-remember key phrases that are a great framework for becoming more conscious and intentional in your communication. One important point: work with the phrases to make them your own so you feel comfortable using them. It takes some practice, but I can attest to the positive results it brings!
A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose (Eckhart Tolle)
Yes, it’s that book that Oprah promoted so widely – and for good reason, in my opinion! A New Earth is a fascinating description of the role our ego plays in today’s society, and more importantly in our everyday lives. Eckhart Tolle’s simple and engaging style makes the topic accessible and offers a balanced view of how to bring our soul and ego into a healthy alignment. If everyone heeded the message in this book, our world would be a very different place!
Affirmations: How to Expand Your Personal Power and Take Back Control of Your Life (Stuart Wilde)
Stuart Wilde had me laughing all the way through this manifesto of how to step into your personal power. But far more than being a humorous kind of chap (which he certainly is!), Wilde pulls the wool from over our eyes and shows clearly how society is generally set up to remove our personal power and keep us docile. Not for the faint of heart, this ‘magnificent battle plan’ can inspire you to ever-greater independence of thought and action.
The Trick to Money Is Having Some! (Stuart Wilde)
Another wonderfully amusing, yet profound work from Stuart Wilde. He shines a dazzling light on the emotionally charged topic of money to show just how simple it can be to reach complete financial freedom. Full of useful information, the book’s main thrust is that it’s our attitude about, and relationship to, money that dictate how much or little of the stuff we have. And since one thing we do have the power to change is our attitude, Wilde’s book provides a good dose of hope, not to mention practical ideas.
Your Body Speaks Your Mind: Decoding the Emotional, Psychological, and Spiritual Messages That Underlie Illness (Deb Shapiro)
Ever wondered why you sometimes succumb when the flu’s going around, and sometimes stay healthy? Is it as random as it seems? Not in my experience! Deb Shapiro’s easy-to-read reference book is a great introduction to the deep connection between our bodies and our minds that is so often ignored by the medical profession. As this book shows, our bodies are constantly sending us messages designed simply to help us remain in healthy balance; learn to decode these messages and you will begin to see your body as your friend instead of your enemy!
Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life (Byron Katie)
Byron Katie is an incredibly loving being who brings us a simple and effective formula for turning our suffering on its head and seeing new perspectives. Four questions, asked in a specific way and order, transform our judgements and complaints about others into deep self-understanding and renewal. Having tried them myself, I can attest that the questions totally disarm and challenge the ‘stories’ we tell ourselves and others about our lives. You can also check out Katie’s website www.thework.com.
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams (Deepak Chopra)
I just love this short book by Deepak Chopra and find it a wonderfully simple explanation of the natural laws of the universe that we can all use to our advantage. If we do, we will realize that life really doesn’t have to be a struggle, and we can gently step into the natural flow that is just waiting for us.
The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (Don Miguel Ruiz)
Everyone I know who has read this book agrees that the ancient wisdom it contains is priceless. The four simple rules for living an authentic and integral life cut right to the heart of many of the dramas we all create for ourselves and show a clear path forward. This is a book you can come back to again and again and again...
